UT Dallas Men's Soccer Stays In ASC Playoff Race With 3-1 Comeback Win At Concordia

Box Score AUSTIN, TX (10.21.10) - Junior Ryan Courson scored a pair of goals as the UT Dallas men's soccer team kept its American Southwest Conference playoff hopes alive Thursday with a 3-1 come-from-behind win at Concordia.

Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Courson, a forward from Midlothian, knotted the game as he netted his first goal of the game in the 41st minute. Courson's goal was made possible by a pass from junior defender Gentry Contrares, his first assist of the season.

The Comets took the lead early in the second half when sophomore Eric Pekkala torched the back of the the net from 40 yards out for an unassisted tally, his first goal of the season. Courson later gave UTD an insurance goal as he found net, his fifth goal of the season, off a pass from senior Patrick Hing. The assist was Hing's first of the year. The Comets had 20 shots on the afternoon, eight of which were on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Bailey Williams notched the win, making two saves, as his defense gave up just six shots, three of which were on goal. The Tornados tallied their lone goal in the 21st minute from James Walsh, assisted by brother Matt Walsh.

With Thursday's win, UTD (now 10-4-2 overall) currently sits atop the ASC standings with a 7-2-2 mark. However, with nine teams with at least five conference wins, the Comets still have not secured a postseason berth with just two games left on the regular-season slate.

The Comets return to action Saturday when they travel to Tyler to square off with rival Texas-Tyler. Game time is 4 p.m.
