Mark Brooks netted his second goal of the season in the 67th minute and the UT Dallas men's soccer team (now 12-4-2) then held off a pesky Hardin-Simmons squad Friday for a 1-0 win in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament., hosted by UT-Tyler.

After a scoreless first half, HSU (now 11-6) exploded offensively but Comet senior keeper
Bailey Williams and the UTD defense kept the Cowboys at bay. Hardin-Simmons had a flurry of three corner kicks in a span of less than a minute early in the second half, but the Cowboys could not dent the scoreboard.
With just under 24 minutes left in regulation, Brooks' corner kick was redirected off an HSU defender into the Cowboy net, giving the Comets all the offense then needed at the 66:06 mark. Brooks took just one shot in the contest.
UTD was outshot by the Cowboys, 12-11, but limited HSU to just three shots on goal in the contest. Williams collected three saves, the third coming in the 87th minute, in his sixth shutout of the season. Sophomore

Anthony Stryk each recorded a shot on goal.
The Comets will now advance to the ASC semifinals for the seventh time in program history and will be looking for their fifth appearance in the league's title game when the face Mississippi College 2 p.m. Saturday U TD is 0-1 all-time against the Choctaws in the ASC Tournament, falling in a shootout in the first round of the 2006 event.
