Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (10.22.11) - The UT Dallas volleyball team closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule Saturday afternoon with a quick 3-0 win over Centenary. The Comets downed Centenary, 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.
Halea Williams led UT Dallas with 13 kills while
Dana Hilzendager and Taylor Toso each had 10 kills as the Comets hit .306 as a team. Williams ended the match with a .667 hitting percentage, making just one error in 18 attempts. The setting duo of
Chelsea McHenry and
Hayden Higgins had an efficient match as well, collecting 25 and 20 assists, respectively. Hilzendager led UTD with 13 digs while
Amy Gunter added 12 digs.
The Comets (now 20-4) secured their sixth straight 20-win season after downing Centenary in what was officially a non-conference match. UTF finished the home portion of its schedule with a perfect 6-0 record, marking just the second time in program history (2009) the Comets have been perfect at home. It won't be the last home match for the Comets this season, however, as UTD will host the American Southwest Conference Tournament, Nov. 3-5.
The opening set was the tightest of the three as the two teams battled back-and-forth before the Comets pulled away late. The two teams were tied six times, the last at 19-19, before UTD got a kill from
Tabitha Terrell and back-to-back kills by Williams to take a three-point cushion, 22-19. Williams added two more kills before the end of the set to help the Comets grab a 25-22 lead. Williams ended the set with seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage.
In the second set, Williams and Toso each had five kills to pace the Comets to a 25-18 win over the Ladies. UTD hit .282 as the Comets scored the opening point of the game on a
Christina Murphy kill and never trailed. The Comets led by as many as 10 points, 20-10, before finishing off the set.
The Comets cruised to the win in the third and deciding set, hitting an impressive .400 as a team in the 25-15 win. Hilzendager found her rhythm with five kills while Terrell and Toso each contributed four kills. McHenry controlled the offense in the third set, collecting eight assists during her rotation.
Centenary fell to 13-9 after the loss. Jaclyn Lopez led the Ladies with nine kills while Shelby Singleton added six kills, getting five in the first set.
UTD hits the road Tuesday night to wrap up ASC East Division play at rival Texas-Tyler. Match time is 7 p.m. in Tyler.
