GAME 1 - UTT 2, UTD 1
The Comets got a solid pitching performance from senior
Jeni Olbeter and an RBI double by Avery Mchugh, but could not maintain a spotless ASC East record.
UT-Tyler opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st with a two-out RBI single by Ashley Endsley, scoring Heather Abshire from second base. Abshire reached on a walk and advanced to second on an infield single by Brittney Batten, both with two outs. The Patriots added another run in the 5th when Abshire plated Raven Rodriguez with a two-out single to rightfield. Rodriguez walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
UTD finally got on the scoreboard in the 6th when
Brittanie Knowles singled to left-centerfield and quickly came home on a McHugh's double off the wall. The Comets added a walk by
Rachel Riley to look to knot the game, but could not get a runner to third base. In the top of the 7th,
Megan Aragones led off with a walk, however, UTD could not get the runner around and extend the game.
Olbeter (6-4) toss a complete game, giving up two earned runs on four hits. She struck out two Patriots and issued three walks. UTD finished with five hits off Abshire with McHugh going 2-for-3.
GAME 2 - UTT 10, UTD 2 (6 innings)
The Comets grabbed one-run leads in both the 1st and 4th frames, but nine late runs by UT-Tyler lifted the Patriots to a 10-2 six-inning victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Jordan Bratcher led off the game with an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a fielder's choice grounder by Knowles and finally scored on a Patriot fielding error on a Riley ground ball for the first run of the game. However, UTT answered in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single by Batten, scoring Rodriguez.
In the top of the 4th, it was Bratcher again on the spot as she used a single to centerfield to plate
Hannah Creech from second base, giving the Comets a 2-1 advantage. But, UTT loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the frame followed by a single and a walk to take its first lead of the game, 3-2. The Patriots added a two-run homer by Endsley with two outs in the 5th and plated five runs in the 6th, including a three-run walk-off home run by Abshire.
