The Comets pulled away late, scoring six runs in the bottom of the 6th, to secure a 12-5 win over Mississippi College to kick off the weekend set.

UTD fell behind early, both in the 1st and 2nd innings, before taking the lead for good, 6-5, with two runs in the bottom of the 3rd. The Comets' offensive explosion in the 6th gave UTD much-needed breathing room as the Choctaws collected 13 hits.

However, the Comets retaliated with a three-run frame of their own, collecting an RBI single from Avery McHugh, followed by a two-run single by Rachel Riley. MC answered with four runs in the top of the 2nd, using five hits off of Comet starter Jeni Olbeter, to regain a 5-4 advantage. But, UTD responded with a run in the bottom of the frame on a Stephanie Harris groundout, scoring Robin Thomas from third, and got two runs in the 3rd on three Choctaws errors in the inning.

In the 6th, the Comets got three straight singles from Jonelle Feikis, Jordan Bratcher and Harris before the first of three MC errors in the frame allowed pinch-runner to score for the first UTD run of the inning. A single to left by Brittanie Knowles, followed by two Choctaw throwing errors on the play, allowed Bratcher and Harris to come home, giving UTD a 9-5 cushion. After a double play, Riley jump-started another Comet rally with a single down the left field line, the first of four straight hits by the Comets. Following Riley hit was a single by Hannah Creech, an RBI double by Megan Aragones and an RBI single by Thomas.

Olbeter (10-7) picked up the victory as she scattered a season-high 13 hits while giving up four earned runs in a complete-game performance. Olbeter struck out three Choctaws while issuing one walk.
