Comets Improve To 5-0-1 With Second Shutout of Season, Top 'Roos 3-0

BRYAN SHIBA AND HIS DEFENSIVE TEAMMATES ALLOWED JUST FOUR AUSTIN COLLEGE SHOTS, ONLY ONE ON NET.
Box Score RICHARDSON, TX (09.13.13) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team, which earlier in the week cracked the national Top 25 poll, posted its second shutout of the season Friday night, remaining unbeaten after a 3-0 home victory over Austin College.

Michael Darrow Action
The 24th-ranked Comets improved to 4-0-1 with three second-half goals, including two from leading scorer Michael Darrow. Darrow, already with eight goals this season, moved to within one goal of tying former standout Ali Morshedi (2002-2005) for the Comets' all-time scoring record. The Plano senior now has 40 career goals with still over half a season to play. His next goal would tie Morshedi at 41 career goals.

Darrow got two of those goals in a 2:12 span early in the second half Friday night to break a 0-0 halftime tie with the 'Roos (1-3-1). Just 11:27 after intermission, Myles Bowen sent a long pass into the box, and Darrow was left all alone in front of the goal after AC goalkeeper Andrew Celio came out to meet the pass. Then, Darrow tacked on his second goal at 58:39, scoring quickly off a Travis White throw-in.

Benjamin Tijerina made it 3-0, picking up an Omar Jaroun pass at 75:57, splitting the defenders and getting the ball past the keeper one-on-one.

The Comets dominated possession, and finished the night with a 20-4 advantage in shots. The 'Roos starting keeper Ian Allison, who stopped three shots in the scoreless first half, left at intermission with an injury and was replaced by Celio, who picked up just one save while allowing three goals. Comet keeper Steven Nicknish had to make one save all game long.

The shutout was the second of the season for the Comets, who have given up just three goals all year.

The Comets next travel to California for a pair of matches next weekend against UC-Santa Cruz and Pamona-Pitzer.
