MARSHALL, TX (10.17.14) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to earn a 2-0 win at East Texas Baptist Friday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (now 8-3-2, 3-1 ASC) continues it two-game road swing Saturday afternoon at Louisiana College. Game time is 3 p.m. in Pineville, La.
UTD had no shortage of offensive opportunities, but it took a penalty kick by
Will Collins in the 50th minute to break open a scoreless game with the Tigers. The Comets added a goal by
Michael Matthews in the 72nd minute as the junior beat ETBU keeper Juan Perales one-on-one. Collins and Matthews each scored their third goals of the season.
The Comets finished the game with 22 shots, 13 of which were on goal, as they now won five of the last six contests since suffering a three-game winless streak last month. UTD held the Tigers to 12 shots, only five on goal.
Matthews and
Omar Jaroun each led the Comets with four shots while
Chase Withrow came off the bench for three shots. UTD keeper
Joseph Weber made four saves in just over 83 minute goal while backup keeper
Tyler Cotter made one save to close out the game.
