UTD Men Blank LC, 5-0, To Hang Close In ASC Chase

PINEVILLE, LA. (10.18.14) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team used a second-half barrage to pull away for a 5-0 American Southwest Conference road victory over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Comets (9-3-2 overall, 4-1 ASC) stayed within a game of conference leader Hardin-Simmons (5-0 ASC) near the top of the ASC standings. UTD hosts the Cowboys in a potential showdown for the conference lead next weekend. The two teams played to a 0-0 overtime tie in a non-conference matchup earlier this year.

UTD got a pair of goals and an assist from senior Omar Jaroun, including the game winner on a header just 21:52 into the match off an serve from Sam Konstanty. But UTD broke the game open in the second half, scoring three more times in the first 10 minutes of the period, capped by Jaroun's second goal of the game, and fourth of the season.

Three freshmen got into the scoring action in the second half. Jason Horvath from Fairview picked up his first collegiate goal just 1:17 into the half, chipping in a shot to the left corner. Just two minutes later, Danny Meyer of Phoenix, Arizona, picked up his third goal of the season, dribbling in to beat the keeper and make it 3-0. Jaroun added to his two-goal afternoon with a fourth goal at the 54:56 mark, again beating the keeper one-on-one. Freshman Andrew Jensen of Richmond, finished off the scoring with just over a minute left on the clock, picking up his first goal of the season.

UTD enjoyed a 21-5 edge in shots, but only put eight on net. The defense held the Wildcats (5-5-4, 1-2-3 ASC) to just one shot on goal.
