No. 24 Comets Hold Off East Texas Baptist, 2-1, In Return To ASC Play

MARSHALL, TX (10.17.14) - The No. 24-ranked UT Dallas women's soccer team rebounded from its second loss of the season Friday afternoon with a 2-1 road win over East Texas Baptist in the Comets' return to American Southwest Conference play.

The Comets (now 9-2-1, 3-0-1 ASC) scored two early goals and held off a flurry of scoring attempts by host ETBU (4-5-2, 0-3-2 ASC) in the second half to remain unbeaten in ASC play. UTD will continue their road trip Saturday afternoon at Louisiana College. Game time is 1 p.m. in Pineville, La.

Alissa Burch opened the scoring for the Comets, tallying her seventh goal of the season after a cross from teammate Carli Beckett in the 18th minute. Beckett later added her ASC-leading 11th goal of the season, scoring unassisted from just outside the box in the 24th minute. ETBU got on the board in the 26th minute on a goal by Kendall Harris.

UTD out-shot the Tigers, 17-11, but were matched shot-by-shot, 8-8, in the second half of play as both keepers were forced to make several saves. Comets' keeper Macaire Ament made five second-half saves (including one in the final minute), and finished with seven for the game. ETBU keeper Christina Salas finished with six saves, four of which came in the second half.
