Birch, Comets Dispatch LeTourneau, 4-0, For Second ASC Win

RICHARDSON, TX (10.02.14) - Senior Alissa Birch scored twice to help lead the UT Dallas women's soccer team to a dominating 4-0 victory over LeTourneau University Thursday night at the UTD Soccer Complex.

Birch, who now has six goals on the season, found net twice in a three-goal, second-half onslaught that turned a close match into a rout. UTD finished the night with a 34-1 advantage in shots and put 15 shots on goal during the match. UTD goalkeeper Macaire Ament did not have to make a save in securing the victory.

The Comets (8-1 overall) improved to 2-0 in American Southwest Conference play while LeTourneau (3-5-1 overall) dropped its second straight ASC match.

The win was UTD's fourth straight and marked the seventh time this season the team has recorded a shutout. The match also marked the return of former head coach John Antonisse, who took over the Yellowjacket program this summer. His assistant coach is former UTD goalkeeper Brittany Best.

Senior Carli Beckett broke a 0-0 start with her team-best 10th goal of the season, deflecting a long shot from Megan Mugavero in the 25th minute of the match. The Comets held a 1-0 lead at the break despite an 18-0 advantage in shots.

Burch then fired in a 35-yard long distance goal that sailed over LETU keeper Jamie Aguillen in the 57th minute. Mugavero netted her fourth goal of the season six minutes later to make it 3-0 off a rebound on a Samantha Huston shot. Burch finished the scoring with another unassisted goal, firing from the top of the box in the 71st minute.

The start of the game was delayed over an hour by a rain/wind storm that moved through the area.

UTD returns to its home field to face UT Tyler in another ASC showdown at 5 pm Saturday night.
