RICHARDSON, TX (10.04.14) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team struck first but had to settle for a 1-1 home tie with rival Texas-Tyler Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play.
With the tie, the Comets (now 8-1-1, 2-0-1 ASC) remained unbeaten in ASC play this season and have now given up just four goals in 10 games. UTD will take a short break from league play this week with a non-conference road game with Carroll College (MT) Saturday at 7 p.m.
UTD broke open a scoreless game in the 24th minute with
Tatum Moog stole the ball near midfield and then sent in a pass to teammate to
Andrea Guevara which was then redirected to a striking
Megan Mugavero to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. It was Mugavero's fifth goal of the season. However, the Patriots countered in the 37th minute, scoring on a free kick by Chestley Strother from just outside the box.
Neither team had many scoring chances in the second half as both team collected just one shot on goal in the second 45 minutes. UTD keeper
Macaire Ament then came up big in the two overtime periods, collecting four of her eight saves in the extra time.
Mugavero finished the game with four shots while
Alissa Burch had two shots. UTD had just eight shots, three of which were on goal, in the 110-minute game.
