AUSTIN, TX (10.31.14) - With a 2-0 road win over Concordia Texas Friday afternoon, the UT Dallas men's soccer team has secured at least a share of the American Southwest Conference regular-season title and will host the league's postseason tournament next week.
Omar Jaroun gave the Comets (now 12-3-2, 7-1 ASC) all the offense it needed with a goal late in the first half. Jaroun's fifth goal of the season came in the 43rd minute after a fairly quiet opening half as he beat the CTX keeper on a breakaway after a pass from teammate
Michael Matthews.
Chase Withrow added an insurance goal in the 58th minute as he tallied his second third goal of the game off a rebounded shot by teammate
Danny Meyer.
The Comets finished their fifth straight shutout with 18 shots, 11 of which on goal, compared to just three shots by host Concordia. Jaroun led the pack with four shots, all on goal, while
Connor Crabtree finished with three shots. UTD keeper
Joseph Weber played the majority of the game, recording three saves in just over 82 minutes in goal.
Tyler Cotter completed the game without facing a shot on goal by the Tornados.
UTD will close the regular season Saturday evening as they visit Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time is 7 p.m. in Belton.
