AUSTIN, TX (10.31.14) - Freshman
Millie Atkins scored the game-winning goal with just under five minutes to play in double overtime to lift the UT Dallas women's soccer team to a 2-1 road win over Concordia Texas in American Southwest Conference play Friday afternoon.
The goal was Atkins' fourth of the season and she now has the Comets' game-winner in the squad's last three victories. UTD (now 12-3-1, 6-1-1 ASC) opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a header by
Andrea Guevara, her fourth goal of the season as well, off a
Jasmine Chipps free kick. However, Concordia tallied the equalizer in the final minutes of regulation to force the Comets to their fourth overtime game of the season. Atkins's game-winner came from 30 yards out past a diving CTX keeper after a centering pass by teammate
Samantha Huston.
UTD dominated the game offensively, out-shooting the Tornados, 27-7, and managed 14 shots on goal, but CTX keeper Kila Hartom collected 12 saves for the Tornados. Comet keeper
Macaire Ament needed just one save in the win as UTD limited Concordia to just two shots on goal.
Guevara led UTD with eight shots, six of which were on goal, while
Carli Beckett had five shots and Houston and
Sarah Borg each finished with three shots.
The Comets wrap up the regular season Saturday evening as they visit Mary Hardin-Baylor. Game time is 5 p.m. in Belton.
