Box Score BIRMINGHAM, AL (08.29.14) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team was handed a season-opening 2-0 loss to Birmingham-Southern Friday night to kick off the Jim 'n Nick's/PUMA Labor Day Classic at Berylson Soccer Park.
The Comets (0-1) gave up two first-half goals and collected three yellow cards before the break as they were handed the defeat by the host Panthers. BSC opened the scoring in the 16th minute on a tally by Dominik Faber and added a goal by Conner Quiggle in the 43rd minute. The Panthers were extremely efficient in the opening half, scoring two goals on just five shots.
UTD finished the night with 18 shots, compared to 10 by the Panthers, however only managed six on goal.
J.T. Hawkins and
Omar Jaroun each finished the game with three shots while
Julian Torres had two shots.
Joseph Weber made three saves in his debut in goal for the Comets.
The Comets will face Oglethorpe Sunday at 12 p.m. to wrap up the event. Oglethorpe (1-0) opened its season with a 3-0 win over Huntingdon Friday afternoon.
