Roman Rodriguez and a sizable shot advantage, the UT Dallas men's soccer team had to settle for a 3-3 road tie with Austin College Sunday afternoon.
OMAR JAROUN ALSO SCORED FOR THE COMETS.The Comets (now 3-1-1), coming off their big win over nationally-ranked Trinity last weekend, broke a 2-2 tie with Rodriguez' second goal of the game with only 16 minutes left in regulation. But winless Austin College (0-3-2) answered with Thomas Quick's second goal of the game just two minutes later and neither team could find the "golden goal" in the final minutes of regulation and two overtime periods.
UTD outshot the 'Roos, 28-9; but AC keeper Andrew Cellow stopped six shots on the Kangaroo goal. AC put six of its nine shots on net, slipping three past the UTD defense. The Comets held a 7-1 advantage in overtime shots, but could not score.
Rodriguez, who now has a team-best six goals for the Comets, opened the scoring in the 29th minute, taking a feed from Mike Matthews and dribbling past the 'Roo defense for an open shot. The 'Roos, however, tied the score at 1-1 just before halftime on Quick's first goal of the afternoon. Just three minutes into the second half, AC's Chris Abad-Jacobi gave the 'Roos a 2-1 advantage.
Omar Jaroun then answered three minutes later in the see-saw affair with a goal off a header into the right corner off a
Jordan Rubel chip serve to tie the score in the 75th minute.
Rodriguez then gave the Comets what looked like a potential game-winner two minutes after that (76:59), chipping a shot over Cellow to give UTD a 3-2 advantage. But Quick answered immediately to tie the score and the game ended at 3-3.
Rodriguez and Jaroun each finished with a game-high five shots while
Joseph Weber made three saves in the full 110 minutes in goal.
