The game was a defensive struggle as the two teams combined for just 18 shots (7 on goal) in the 90-minute match. UTD held an 11-7 edge, but only put four shots on the Patriot goal. The Patriots had just two shots on goal for all but the final minute of the match when Timothy Moyer slipped one past Weber to avoid the shutout.
Meyer, a freshman from Phoenix, Arizona, put the Comets on the board just 22:18 into the match, scoring off an assist from
Travis White. Crabtree, a sophomore from Katy, Texas, added the important insurance goal at 75:17 to give UTD a 2-0 edge with just 15 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Comets open ASC play at home Thursday night against LeTourneau, then host a rematch - this one a conference match - against UTT Saturday afternoon.
