The Comets (2-1) got a pair of first-half goals, then used a stingy defense to allow the Pirates (0-3) just one shot on goal as UTD keepers Joseph Weber and Tyler Cotter combined for the shutout win.

The Comets outshot Southwestern, 15-8; and put nine shots on goal, forcing Pirate keeper Travis Carmichael into six saves.

UTD got the game-winner just 22:59 into the match as junior transfer Roman Rodriguez scored his third goal of the season to give UTD a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez took a feed from Chase Withrow and launced a rocket into the net.

The Comets then got the important insurance goal less than a minute before halftime when senior Will Collins scored his first goal of the season off a rebound opportunity in the box. Luke Cotter was credited with the assist on the crossing shot.

Then 14:51 into the second half, sophomore Sam Konstanty also picked up his first goal of the season, firing a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner.

The Comets have little time to recover before facing No. 5-ranked Trinity University Saturday afternoon at 5:30 on the Southwestern field.
