The Comets outshot Southwestern, 15-8; and put nine shots on goal, forcing Pirate keeper Travis Carmichael into six saves.
UTD got the game-winner just 22:59 into the match as junior transfer
Roman Rodriguez scored his third goal of the season to give UTD a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez took a feed from
Chase Withrow and launced a rocket into the net.
The Comets then got the important insurance goal less than a minute before halftime when senior
Will Collins scored his first goal of the season off a rebound opportunity in the box.
Luke Cotter was credited with the assist on the crossing shot.
Then 14:51 into the second half, sophomore
Sam Konstanty also picked up his first goal of the season, firing a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner.
The Comets have little time to recover before facing No. 5-ranked Trinity University Saturday afternoon at 5:30 on the Southwestern field.
