RICHARDSON, TX (10.01.15) - Sophomore
Daaron McFarling scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the game as the No. 13-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team earned a 3-0 home win over McMurry Thursday night.
The Comets (now 9-1-1) picked up their fifth straight win and extended their unbeaten streak to six games as they limited visiting McMurry to just three shots on the night, only one on goal. McFarling gave UTD a very quick 1-0 lead just 1:48 into the contest as he used a header to score off a
Luke Cotter free kick. The Fairview native added his second goal of the game, third of the season, in the eighth minute thanks to a deep cross from teammate
Kevin Whatley.
"I went my whole freshman year and got like three shots off the whole time," said McFarling. "It just feel great to get the chance to score and help us get wins. We've had a great start to the season and look to keep it going."
UTD got a final tally late in the game as sophomore transfer
Jackson Gray found a loose ball after a
Rodrigo Balmaceda and drill it home from just outside the six-yard box. The Comets ended the match with 26 shots, only nine of which were on goal, with
Michael Matthews and
Isaac Urcuyo each finishing with four shots. McFarling and
Roman Rodriguez each took three shots. UTD keeper
Tyler Cotter earned his second shutout of the season, making one save.
The Comets will return to action Saturday afternoon as they host reigning American Southwest Conference champion Hardin-Simmons. Game time 3 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
