RICHARDSON, TX (10.03.15) - The No. 13-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team recorded its eighth shutout of the season Saturday afternoon in an 1-0 home win over Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (now 10-1-1, 3-0 ASC) secured their sixth-straight double-digit victory season by holding an opponent without a shot on goal for the third time this year. Sophomore
Danny Meyer accounted for the only offense of the contest, scoring his team-leading sixth goal of the year in the 32nd minute, tallying from five yards out after a pass from teammate
Isaac Urcuyo.
UTD finished the game with 13 shots, only three on goal, and again relied heavily on the defense to maintain a clean slate in ASC play. Meyer led UTD with three shots while
Jason Horvath,
Connor Crabtree,
Erik Reyes and
Daaron McFarling each took two shots. The guest Cowboys (now 5-4-1, 3-2 ASC) took eight shots.
Now with eight shutouts, the Comets are just four shutouts shy of the program record of 12, set in 2008. UTD has now won six straight contests and extended its unbeaten streak to seven games.
Next up for the Comets is an ASC road game at Howard Payne next Saturday. Game time is 3 p.m. in Brownwood.
