Comet Women Find Their Groove In 10-0 Home Win Over McMurry

RICHARDSON, TX (10.01.15) - Eight different players scored as the UT Dallas women's soccer team posted its largest margin of victory in three seasons with a 10-0 home win over McMurry at the UTD Soccer Field.

The Comets (now 7-4) entered Thursday's match with McMurry reeling for their first shutout of the year and responded well as both junior Kat Civitillo and sophomore Millie Atkins scored twice in the lopsided victory. UTD finished the contest with 37 shots, including 20 on goal, both season highs.

Civitillo opened the scoring with her first goal of the night as she received as pass from the the right from teammate Maegan Chavez and scored on a ricochet off her knee for the official "game winner". The Comet would score seven goals in the first half, including the next three goals in a span of 2:30. In the 12th minute, Jacqueline Kaufman doubled the Comets' lead with breakaway goal after a feeder pass from Amanda Avalos and then beat McM keeper Simone Heinle to the right. Sofia Quezada (13') and Melissa Fulfer (14') both in on the action with long unassisted shots to lift UTD to a 4-0 advantage.

In the 23rd minute, Atkins tallied her first goal of the game as she scored for 10 yards out after a cross from Fulfer. Atkins then scored in the 28th minute on a Fulfer corner kick. Tori Edge then became the sixth different Comet to score in the opening half with a unassisted goal on a loss ball from six yards out in the 40th minute.

In the second half, Avalos found the back of the net after a short cross from Civitillo in the 66th minute to give UTD an 8-0 lead. Civitillo then recorded her second goal in the 71st minute, from in front of the goal after a cross from the right by Lindsey Perek. Tatum Moog finished the scoring in the 83rd minute, unassisted from 25 yards out.

Fulfer finished the night with a team-high eight shots, three on goal, while Civitillo, Avalos and Jessica Rusk each took four shots. In total, 13 different Comets recorded a shot. Kristi Istre played the first 65 minutes in goal, making two saves, while Macaire Ament made her season debut with two saves in 25 minutes of relief.

With the loss, McMurry dropped to 2-5-1 on the season. Cristen Lubreras led the WarHawks with two shots. As a team, McMurry took eight shots, four on goal. Heinle made 10 saves in a full 90 minutes in goal.

The Comets return to action Saturday afternoon as they host Hardin-Simmons in American Southwest Conference play. Game time is 1 p.m.
