BROWNWOOD, TX (10.10.15) - Sophomore
Danny Meyer punched in a pair of early in each half, propelling the UTD men's soccer team to a 4-0 American Southwest Conference win at Howard Payne Saturday afternoon.
Meyer, who now leads the 13th-ranked Comets in scoring with 8 goals, took a pass from
Jason Horvath just 11:53 into the match and scored past a diving HPU goalkeeper to put the Comets on top to stay. He then scored just 6:41 into the second half on another cross from Horvath with the first of three UTD scores after intermission. The Comets took a 3-0 lead after an own goal off an HPU player at the 59:56 mark. Then freshman
Rodrigo Balmaceda capped the scoring with his first goal of the season, assisted by sophomore transfer
James Valley.
UTD (11-1-1 overall) improves to 4-0 in ASC play, tied with UT Tyler atop the conference standings. HPU fell to 2-8, 2-5.
It was UTD's seventh straight win, just two shy of the school record for consecutive victories.
The Comets outshot the Yellowjackets, 14-7, putting 13 shots on goal. UTD keepers
Joseph Weber and
Luke Cotter had to make just one save.
UTD is back at home with ASC matches against East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau next Thursday and Saturday.
