RICHARDSON, TX (10.15.15) - The No. 10-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team collected its 10th shutout of the season Thursday night as the Comets cruised to a 7-0 home win over East Texas Baptist in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (now 12-1-1, 5-0 ASC) continued to stay perfect in ASC play, now outscoring league opponents 16-2 in their five conference games. Now winners of eight in a row, UTD will look to match a program record for consecutive wins Saturday with a home match with LeTourneau. Game time is 7 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
UTD needed just 6:44 into the game to score the game winner as senior
Jordan Rubel drilled a penalty kick past ETBU starting keeper Juan Perales for a quick 1-0 Comet lead. The Comets added a second in the 16th minute as
Isaac Urcuyo struck a ball from 15 yards out after a pass up the middle from teammate
Connor Crabtree.
The Comets then scored five goals in the second half, including the first two within a span of 10 seconds. At the 43:06 on the clock,
Jason Horvath took a cross from
Kevin Whatley right in front of the net.
Danny Meyer then scored an breakaway after stealing the ball from the ETBU restart with 42:56 left. Rubel struck again in the 53rd minute off a rebound of a Urcuyo shot that ricocheted off the right post. Urcuyo would score in the 54th minute in front of the net, thanks to a pass from Meyer, and Crabtree added an unassisted tally in the 62nd minute to complete the scoring.
UTD finished the match with 24 shots, 10 on goal, with Urcuyo leading the way with six.
Daaron McFarling came off the bench for four shots while Rubel and Meyer each took three shots.
Joseph Weber started the game in goal and made one save in just under 51 minutes of work.
Tyler Cotter played the final 39 minutes, making one save.
For ETBU (now 2-10, 2-3 ASC), Perales made two saves and allowed six goals before exiting in the 59th minute. Ryan Hammond played 14 minutes, giving up one goal, and Ryan Barham played 17 minutes, making one save. The Tigers took three shots on the night, two on goal.
