ALPINE, TX (10.10.15) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team held a 29-7 shot advantage as the Comets sailed to an 8-1 road win over Sul Ross State Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (now 9-5, 3-1 ASC) scored three goals late in the first half and then added second-half tallies to picked up their second straight win after dropping two of three contests. UTD returns to action Thursday night as the Comets host East Texas Baptist at 5 p.m.
Melissa Fulfer opened the scoring in the 30th minute as she scored on a rebound of her own shot, saved by SRSU starting keeper Kelly Swenson.
Kat Civitillo added a tally in the 33rd minute, thanks to an assist by teammate
Sofia Quezada.
Tatum Moog completed the Comets' first-half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 36th minute, a bullet from just outside the box.
Fulfer scored her second goal of the game, fourth of the season, in the 52nd minute to open a five-goal second half for UTD. Fulfer's second tally came thanks to an assist from
Jacqueline Kaufman in the box.
Jessica Rusk lifted the Comets to a 5-0 advantage in the 55th minute, assisted by Fulfer.
Kaufman would add her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 58th minute, assisted by
Megan Mugavero, and
Lindsey Perek gave UTD a 7-0 lead in the 63rd minute, assisted by
MaKayla Forsberg.
SRSU (now 2-7, 2-5 ASC) got on the board in the 81st minute with a goal by Belen Bray. The Comets completed the scoring in the 89th minute, an unassisted goal by
Emily Bishop.
Fulfer led UTD with five shots while Rusk, Perek and
Tori Edge each had four shots.
Kristi Istre started the game in goal and did not need to make a save in the first half.
Macaire Ament played the final 45 minutes, making two saves and giving up one goal.
