Comets Use Set Plays To Earn 4-0 Win Over LeTourneau

RICHARDSON, TX (10.17.15) - Freshman Jessica Rusk scored twice in the first 18 minutes off corner kicks as the UT Dallas women's soccer team earned a 4-0 home over LeTourneau Saturday night in American Southwest Conference play.

Fellow freshman Melissa Fulfer assisted both Rusk goals and added a third assist later in the first half on a free kick to give the Comets (now 11-5, 5-2 ASC) early control of the contest. UTD finished the match with 22 shots, 12 on goal, compared to just six by LETU. The YellowJackets (now 7-5-1, 4-2-1 ASC) managed just two shots on a goal.

Rusk's first tally came in the 14th minute as she headed in a goal from just outside the six-yard box off a Fulfler corner kick from the right side. In the 18th minute, Rusk got her second goal, fifth of the season, inside the box, again on a header from Fulfer's corner. Fulfer would collect her third assist of the contest, team-best 10th of the season, in the 35th minute, taking a free kick from the right side with Megan Mugavero putting the ball away with a header from five yards out. UTD completed the scoring in the 76th minute as Jacqueline Kaufman scored her team-leading ninth goal of the year after taking a pass from Rachel Mullen and sliding a shot past the LETU keeper. Mugavero was also credited with an assist on the final goal, feeding the ball to Mullen down the right side of the field.

Rusk and Mugavero each finished with four shots with Kaufman, Fulfer and Amanda Avalos each taking three shots. Monica Dallacasa recorded her sixth shutout of the season, making two saves.

For LETU, keeper Bridey Davis made eight saves in a full 90 minutes for the YellowJackets. Stephanie Vana took three of LETU's six shots.

With Saturday's win, the Comets moved into fourth place in the ASC standings with just three games left in the regular season. The top four teams will host first-round ASC Tournament games on Tuesday, Nov. 3. UTD returns to action Thursday with a road game at Ozarks. Game time is 3 p.m. in Clarksville, Ark.
