No. 21 Comets Win Their 10th Straight, Whip U.Dallas 3-0

IRVING, TX (10.08.15) - The 21st-ranked University of Texas at Dallas volleyball team won its 10th match in a row Thurdsay night, cruising past crosstown rival University of Dallas in straight sets, 25-19, 25-15, 25-8.

Freshman Kristyn Schott from Flower Mound matched her season high with 13 kills to lead the Comets (17-2) to the 3-0 non-conference win, its 13th sweep this season.

UTD hit a resounding .391 in the match, putting down 48 kills with just five errors. UTD also tallied 6.0 total blocks and three service aces. Meanwhile, the Crusaders (9-11 overall) hit just .092 (31 kills, 19 errors in 130 attacks). UD, which dropped a four-set match earlier in the evening to UT Tyler, did not record a block. Coach Marci Sanders was able to empty the bench, getting 14 different players into the match.

The Comets jumped on the Crusaders early, running out to a 22-11 lead in the opening set before UD made a late run to close the gap before falling, 25-19. In the second set, a kill from Holyn Handley started a 12-3 run for UTD that ended in a 25-15 romp. The exhausted Crusaders fell behind 9-0 to start the final set and never got closer than nine points in the 25-8 final.

Handley had nine kills while Michelle Toro added eight along with three block assists. Emma Wallbrown had six kills to go with three block assists. Abbie Barth and Schott combined for 26 of the team's 63 digs. Kayla Jordan picked up 29 assists.

The Comets now get an eight-day, mid-season break before returning the American Southwest Conference action with a three-match crossover tournament weekend, hosted by UT Tyler. The team's next home game is Tuesday, Oct. 20 against division rival East Texas Baptist.
