Micaela Gonzalez recorded her third "double-double" of the season Saturday afternoon as she lifted the No. 25-ranked UT Dallas women's basketball team to a 67-57 win at Ozarks to open American Southwest Conference play.
The Comets (now 5-1, 1-0 ASC) will not take nearly two weeks off before returning to the floor as they visit Southwestern for a non-conference game on Friday, Dec. 18. Game time is 3 p.m. in Georgetown.
Gonzalez was just 3-for-13 from the field, but was a perfect 7-for-7 from the line for a team-high 13 points and added 13 rebounds and three assists to spark the Comets.
McKenzie Petty added nine points while
Alisa Greene added eight points. Point guard
Zavier Landry scored five points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out seven assists.
UTD struggled from the field throughout the game, shooting just 31.9 percent (23-of-72) in its conference opener. The Comets were just 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range, but hit 15-of-20 free throws (75%).
The Comets never trailed in the contest as they held host Ozarks (now 3-2, 0-1 ASC) to just 21.4 percent accuracy (19-of-61) from the floor. The Lady Eagles were 6-of-20 (30%) from the long distance and hit just 13-of-21 free throws (59.1%).
