RICHARDSON, Texas (02.21.15) - In a preview of an opening round matchup at next weekend's American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, the UT Dallas women's basketball team defeated Concordia Texas, 65-55, in their regular season finale at home Satiurday afternoon.

The Comets finished the regular season with a school-record 21 wins after wrapping up the ASC's No. 2 seed with a 17-3 conference mark. They will meet No. 7 seed Concordia (9-15, 8-12 ASC) again next weekend in the opening round of the tournament.

Christina Brosnahan, who was the recipient of a surprise marriage proposal from her longtime boyfriend Dylan Munoz following the presentation (

Madi Hess (14 pts, 9 rb) and
Amber Brown (12 pts, 4 rb) led the Comets to victory in the regular season finale.

Concordia hung close until UTD stretched out its lead late in the second half. After the Tornados cut the Comet lead down to 45-39 with still 13:05 to play, UTD went on a 16-5 run to build a 17-point edge (61-44) at the 6:02 mark. CTX didn't get closer than 12 points again until the final minute.

The teams played a tight game for the first eight minutes with a pair of ties and four lead changes. The Tornados had a 7-6 lead following a three pointer from Ashlyn Ward at the 16:24 mark, but Brosnahan answered with a three of her own seconds later and the Comets never trailed again.

CTX did pull to within a point at 12-11 with 12:19 remaining in the first half, but
Micaela Gonzalez answered with a jumper underneath and Hess nailed a three-pointer to push the lead back out to six points (17-11). The half ended with an even exchange and UTD led 34-29 at the break.

The two teams both shot just over 40 percent from the field, but the Comets enjoyed a 15-for-20 afternoon at the line while CTX hit just 6-of-7. UTD did win the rebounding battle, 65-55.
