TUCSON, AZ (02.06.15) - The UT Dallas baseball team opened up the 2015 season Friday afternoon with a 6-0 loss to No. 4-ranked Linfield at the Arizona Desert Classic.
The Comets (now 0-1) will continue play in the event Saturday with 4:30 p.m. doubleheader with Pacific Lutheran and will then face Linfield again Sunday at 11 a.m. in a single game before returning home.
Linfield opened the scoring with three runs in the second, one earned, and added two more in the third and a final run in the fifth. The Comets managed just five hits, four off of Wildcat starter Chris Haddleland.
The Wildcats (now 1-0) scored the first run of the game after a leadoff triple by Jo Carroll in the second followed by an RBI double by Chance Laboda. Linfield added another run on an error and a final run in the inning on a passed ball. LC scored two runs in the third on a Laboda double and added its final run in the fifth on a RBI single by Scott Schepige.
Pierce Fly was a bright spot for the Comet offense, going 3-for-4 from the two hole while
Brandon George was 1-for-4 and
Tim Cole was 1-for-3.
Tyler Dauer (0-1) tossed 6.0 innings, giving up four earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Michael Ward then tossed two scoreless frames, giving up two hits, before
Tristin DerMargosian tossed a perfect ninth.
