RICHARDSON, TX (03.24.15) - The UT Dallas softball team could dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tuesday evening. The Comets dropped the opener, 9-5, before suffering a 10-2, six-inning defeat in the night cap.
The Comets (now 10-10) return to American Southwest Conference action this weekend with a three-game home series with No. 2-ranked East Texas Baptist. The two teams will play a single game at 6 p.m. Friday before a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at the UTD Softball Field.
GAME 1 - UWEC 9, UTD 5Aly Hudec hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 6th to give the Comets the lead, but Wisconsin-Eau Claire scored five runs in the top of the 7th to lift the Blugolds to a 9-5 win in Tuesday's opener.
UWEC opened the scoring with a run in the top of the 3rd, but the Comets answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a single by
Jonelle Feikis, scoring
Avery McHugh and
Margeaux Petrash. However, the Blugolds responded with three runs in the 4th to grab a 4-2 advantage. After singles by
Morgan Anderson and
Maddie Edwards in the 6th, Hudec belted her second long ball of the season to lift UTD back to a 5-4 lead. The Blugolds would use three hits and a costly error as UWEC scored five unearned runs.
Sara Davison (5-5) picked up the win as she tossed 4.0 total innings in the loss, giving up six runs, one of which was earned, on three hits.. After tossing three solid frames, Davison recorded two outs in the 4th before giving way to
Megan Aragones. Aragones finished the 4th and pitched into the 7th before Davison returned for one out in the final frame.
Lauren McLeod recorded the final two outs of the 7th. Aragones gave up one unearned run on five hits in 2.1 innings of work.
Feikis and
Jordan Bratcher each finished the game 2-for-4 while Hudec was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
GAME 2 - UWEC 10, UTD 2 (6 inn.)The Blugolds exploded for six runs in the top of the 2nd to pull away early and never looked back in a 10-2, six-inning win to close out the doubleheader with the Comets.
Trailing 7-0 in the 4th, UTD scored its only runs of the game on two-run home run by
Jessica Ramos, her fourth homer of the season. UWEC added a run in the 5th and two more in the 6th.
McLeod (5-5) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs, five earned,on six hits in 1.1 innings of work. Aragones made her second relief appearance of the day, giving up just two hits in 2.2 innings, while
Taylor Nabors finished the game, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.0 innings. McHugh was 2-for-3 as the only UTD player with a multi-hit performance.
