Sara Navarro's three-run home run in the top of the 7th seal the win as the UT Dallas softball team cruised to a 9-2 win at Ozarks to open an three-game American Southwest Conference weekend series.
The Comets (now 15-18, 11-16 ASC) temporarily took over sole possession of sixth place in the ASC with the win. Due to weather, the two teams will now close out the series with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
After two scoreless frames to open the game, UTD got on the board in the 3rd with three runs.
Morgan Anderson got things started with a bases-loaded one-out single to left, scoring Navarro.
Avery McHugh and
Taylor Jensen then picked up RBIs on fielder's choice play to give UTD a 3-0 cushion.
Ozarks got a run on a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd, but UTD answered with two runs in the 4th on RBI singles by Navarro and McHugh. Leading 5-2 in the 6th, Anderson picked up her second RBI with a single up the middle, scoring
Taylor Ervin. Navarro then completed a 3-for-4 game with her first career long ball, a blast to right center, scoring
Aly Hudec and Jensen.
Megan Aragones (2-2) picked up her second straight win as she gave up two runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work. Aragones struck out a season-high six and walked two.
Taylor Nabors earned first save, taking over in the sixth with two out and two runners on board. Nabors gave up one hit and struck out two.
