Softball Swept On The Road At No. 3 Texas-Tyler

TYLER, TX (04.03.15) - The UT Dallas softball concluded a week of six games against Top 5 teams by dropping both ends of an American Southwest Conference doubleheader at No. 3 Texas-Tyler Friday afternoon. After dropping a 14-1, five-inning decision to the Patriots Thursday night, the Comets fell 11-3, in five innings, and 7-2 in Friday's twin bill.

The Comets (now 10-16, 6-14 ASC) will look to snap their 12-game losing streak next weekend with a three-game road series at LeTourneau. The two teams will play a 6 p.m. game Friday, Apr. 10, with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday, Apr. 11, in Longview.

GAME 1 - UTT 14, UTD 1 (5 inn.) - THURSDAY
The host Patriots opened the scoring with a single run in the 1st, but used its first big inning of the night with four runs in the 2nd to grab a quick 5-0 lead. UTD got on the board in the top of the 3rd as Morgan Anderson scored from second base on a Patriot error on a Aly Hudec ground ball. But UTT responded with seven runs in the 3rd, six of which were unearned, to take a 12-1 lead. The Patriots added two more runs in the 4th to complete the scoring.

Avery McHugh finished the game 2-for-3, collecting the only two hits for the Comets. Lauren McLeod earned the loss, giving up three earned runs on four hits before making an early exit in the 2nd. Megan Aragones would allow one earned run on three hits while recording four outs before Taylor Nabors finished the game, giving up two earned runs on six hits.

GAME 2 - UTT 11, UTD 3 (5 inn.) - FRIDAY
The Comets spotted UT-Tyler four runs in the 1st and three more in the 2nd before denting the scoreboard in an 11-3 loss in the second of three games against the nationally ranked Patriots.

Trailing 7-0 heading to the 3rd, UTD opened its scoring as Chelsea Sartor scored from first base after a Patriot fielding error. McHugh then cut the UTT lead to 7-2 with a double down the left-field line, scoring Jonelle Feikis, and later scored on a Jordan Bratcher single. However, the Patriots answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame and a final run in the 4th.

Aragones (0-2) was handed the loss, recording just three outs in a start. She made the early exit in the bottom of the 2nd after UTT's first four batters reached base. Aragones would give up six earned runs on eight hits. Nabors tossed the final 3.0 innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits. McHugh was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

GAME 3 - UTT 7, UTD 2 - FRIDAY
The Patriots got a grand slam in the bottom of the 1st from K.K. Stevens and never looked back en route to a 7-2 win over UTD to wrap up the weekend series.

UT-Tyler added two more runs in the 2nd and a final run in the 6th before the Comets would plate a pair of runs in the top of the 7th. After a lead-off walk and a stolen base by Whitney Wolkow, Taylor Ervin gave UTD runners at the corners with a single to center. Two batters later, McHugh picked up her second and third RBIs of the day with a two-run double down the right-field line.

McLeod (5-9) was issued her second loss of the series, giving up six runs on 10 hits in 5.0 innings of work. McLeod struck out two and walked three. Sara Davison tossed the 6th, giving up one run on two hits and a walk. McHugh was 1-for-4 with two RBI while Aly Hudec was 1-for-2.
