Megan Mugavero scored an unassisted goal late in the first overtime period to lift the UT Dallas women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at LeTourneau to open the 2015 season.
After dominating the game through the end of regulation, the Comets (now 1-0) entered the extra period after out-shooting host LETU 24-7 through the first 90 minutes. Mugavero's game winner would come from 10 yards out and to the right of the YellowJacket keeper in the 98th minute as the only shot by UTD in overtime.
UTD finished the game with a 25-9 shot advantage and ended the game with 15 shots on goal, compared to just two by LETU. Mugavero collected five shots in the night, all on goal, while
Melissa Fulfer took four shots and
Jacqueline Kaufman and
Eliza Carey each had three shots. Comet keeper
Monica Dallacasa made two saves in the full game in goal.
Next up for the Comets is their home opener as they host Principia at 5 p.m. Friday at the UTD Soccer Field.
