Comet Men Stay Perfect With 2-0 Win Over Southwestern

RICHARDSON, TX (09.11.15) - The UT Dallas men's soccer continued its six-game home stand to open the season Friday night with a 2-0 win over Southwestern.

The Comets (now 4-0) picked up their third shutout of the season already as they held Southwestern to just seven shots, one on goal, in a dominant performance. UTD will wrap up the weekend Sunday at 3 p.m. No. 6-ranked nationally at the UTD Soccer Field.

UTD struck quickly in the first half as junior J.T. Hawkins netted his team-leading third goal of the season in the sixth minute, an unassisted tally as he streaked down the field after taking away the ball at midfield. The Comets added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute with Erik Reyes collected a pass from teammate Andrew Jenson and drilled a shot to the left of the diving Pirate keeper. The tally was Reyes' second of the season.

The Comets finished the match with 20 shots, 10 on goal, both season highs. Hawkins finished with four shots, three on goal, while Reyes had three shots, one on goal. UTD keeper Joseph Weber needed to make just one save in the shutout performance.

For Southwestern (now 0-4), Jake Swonke took three of the Pirate's seven shots. Ryan Benner made eight saves and gave up both goals.
