Men's Soccer Suffer First Loss, Fall To No. 6 Trinity in OT

RICHARDSON, TX (09.13.15) - With just more 16 minutes to play in regulation, UT Dallas senior Jordan Rubel broke open a scoreless game for the Comets, but No. 6 Trinity would force overtime complete the comeback just 4:09 into the extra frame for a 1-0 win over UTD Sunday afternoon.

The Comets (now 4-1) battled tight with Trinity the entire match, but allowed two goals from right in front of the net over a span of 12 minutes as they were handed their first loss of the season. Rubel's goal came in the 74th minute as he drilled a free kick from 25 yards out past a diving keeper to the right side of the net to give UTD a 1-0 lead. With 7:23 left to play in regulation, however, the Tigers got the equalizer from Derrick Horvath as teammate Laurence Wyke crossed the ball from the left and found Horvath in the middle of a pack of Comet defenders from five yards out.

In overtime, Trinity (now 5-0) got the game winner from Kellen Reid in the 95th minute on a cross from the right side from Tom Carwile, also scoring in a group of defenders from about five yards out.

UTD finished with 20 shots, eight on goal, with Danny Meyer leading the way with four shots. Erik Reyes had three shots and four different Comets finished with two shots. Comet keeper Joseph Weber made six saves as he played the full 90 minutes in goal.

For Trinity, Horvath and Ryan Hunter each had four shots as the Tigers tallied 23 shots, eight on goal. Tiger keeper Chad Margotta made seven saves.

Next up for the Comets is another non-conference match Tuesday night as they host Austin College. Game time is 7 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
