RICHARDSON, TX (09.11.15) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but could not hold on for the win as the Comets fell to George Fox, 3-2, in overtime Friday night in non-conference action.
The Comets (now 4-1) got an quick goal from
Megan Mugavero, her third of the season, in the 14th minute as the junior took a pass from
Jacqueline Kaufman and beat the George Fox keeper one-on-one from 25 yards out.
Melissa Fulfer picked up her second goal of the season in the 27th minute, scoring unassisted with a high shot over the keeper to give UTD a 2-0 advantage.
However, the Bruins (now 1-1-1) got on the scoreboard late in the half as Kacie Morgan scored the first of her two goals as offsides was called off as the ball deflected off a Comet player after a 30-yard shot. In the 66th minute, George Fox knotted the game, 2-2, with Morgan's second tally, scoring on a rebound of a shot by teammate Kenna Meihnart.
UTD had a chance to take the lead with 8:36 left in regulation after drawing a penalty kick, however
Sofia Quezada's shot bounced off the right post. George Fox would end the game on a breakaway goal in the 96th minute as Caitlyn Connor found Savannah Moisan free behind the Comet back line for a one-on-one game winner.
The Comets finished the night with 20 shots, 10 on goal, with Mugavero leading the way with five shots. UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa had six saves.
UTD returns to action Sunday as the Comets host Lewis & Clark at 6 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
