MARSHALL, TX (09.18.15) - The No. 20-ranked UT Dallas men's soccer team scored early and often Friday night as the Comets cruised to a 5-0 blanking of East Texas Baptist in non-conference action.
The Comets (now 5-1-1) will play their final non-conference match of the season Saturday night as they visit LeTourneau. Game time is 7 p.m. in Longview.
Junior
J.T. Hawkins opened the scoring in the 15th minute as he netted his NCAA Division III-leading fourth game-winning goal of the season. Hawkins collected cross from teammate
Sam Konstanty to give UTD a quick 1-0 lead. Sophomore
Danny Meyer then added two goals in a just over a five-minute span to lift the Comets to a 3-0 advantage by halftime.
Meyer's first goal game in the 17th minute, also assisted by Konstanty, and then his second tally came in the 22nd minute, unassisted. Meyer now has three goals on the season. In the second half,
Kevin Whatley (80'), unassisted, and
Andrew Jenson ('83), assisted by
Rodrigo Balmaceda, each added goals to finish the scoring.
Joseph Weber made two saves in the first half while
Tyler Cotter had one save in the second half as the Comets collected their fifth shutout in seven games to open the season.
The Comets finished the match with 25 shots, 13 on goal, while ETBU managed just nine shots, three on goal. Meyer took six shots, three on goal, while
Daaron McFarling had four shots, two on goal.
