Box Score BELTON, TX (09.25.15) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team, ranked No. 17 in the latest national poll, opened American Southwest Conference play Saturday night with a hard-fought 2-1 win over The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
The Comets (7-1-1 overall) rode a pair of first-half goals to an early lead and allowed just one tally from the Cru (3-1-1, 1-1-0 ASC) in the second half.
Isaac Urcuyo and
Jordan Rubel each scored in the game's first half. Urcuyo put the Comets up to stay with a shot from the right wing after a cross from
Connor Crabtree in the 28th minute of action. Rubel then took a feed in the box from
Kevin Whatley in the 42nd minute and punched it in for a 2-0 lead.
UMHB's lone goal came from Jorge Marquez with just nine minutes remaining.
The Comets outshot the Cru, 13-9, but only put four shots on net while UMHB forced UTD keeper
Joseph Weber into four save situations in addition to its goal.
Danny Meyer led the Comets with three shots.
UTD must now turn around on less than 24 hours rest to face Concordia Texas Saturday evening in Austin.
