Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Comets Hold Off Whitman, 2-1, To Remain Unbeaten

RICHARDSON, TX (09.05.15) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team collected its third win in five days Saturday night as the Comets outlasted Whitman College, 2-1, in non-conference action at the UTD Soccer Field.

The Comets struck first in the 12th minute as Danny Meyer tallied his first goal of the new season with a one-touch bullet from five yards out past WC keeper Milo Cantor, after a cross from teammate J.T. Hawkins. Comet Jason Horvath lifted a ball over two defenders to find Hawkins for the cross and was also credited with an assist on the goal. UTD doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute when sophomore Daaron McFarling settled a pass from Jordan Rubel at the top oft he box, turned and sent a shot past Cantor. The goal was the first of McFarling's career.

Whitman (now 0-3) drew within a goal in the 77th minute after a Comet defensive miscue, allowing Connor Welty to play UTD keeper Joseph Weber one-on-one after a pass across from Bridger Sellegren. However, the Missionaries would not threaten again as UTD ran out the final 13 minutes of play.

Weber made six saves in the win, tying a career high. Connor Crabtree finished the night with a game-high five shots, three on goal, while Meyer and Christian Vieira each took two shots. Whitman actually out-shot the Comets, 13-11, and had seven shots on goal, compared to six by UTD. Cantor made three saves in just over 70 minutes in goal for WC before Baker Conte took over and made one save in relief.

The Comets continue their six-game home stand to open the 2015 season next weekend with key regional match ups with Southwestern and No. 6-ranked nationally Trinity. UTD hosts Southwestern at 5 p.m. Friday and Trinity at 3 p.m. Sunday.
