UTD Men Roll Off 4th Straight Victory, Win At Concordia Texas, 91-76

AUSTIN, TX (01.18.16) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team used a strong second half as the Comets extended their winning streak to four games Monday night with a 91-76 win at Concordia Texas in an American Southwest Conference crossover game.

Now sitting in first place in the ASC's East Division, the Comets (now 11-3, 5-2 ASC) return to divisional play Thursday as they looking for their fifth straight victory at reigning league champion East Texas Baptist. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Marshall.

Trailing 59-58 with 8:36 left to play, UTD would outscore the host Tornados 33-17 down the stretch to pull away for the victory. The Comets used a 10-0 run during that stretch to grab momentum, capped by a pair of free throws by Jon Hatcher with 5:45 remaining to give UTD a 73-62 advantage. The Comets held CTX to just four field goals over the final five minutes of the contest.

Junior Kyle Coulter hit 5-of-8 three-pointers for a team-high 21 points, leading five Comets in double-digit scoring. Coulter was 7-for-10 from the field overall and added eight rebounds and four assists, both team highs. Ben Smith came off the bench for 18 points while Hatcher and Caleb Banks each finished with 17 points and Reagan Keogh added 10 points.

The Comets shot a season-high 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the field as a team, hitting 12-of-23 three-pointers (52.2%), and shot 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the free-throw line. UTD had now made 10 or more three-pointers in four straight contests and in seven games overall this season.

For CTX (now 7-8, 2-4 ASC), Donovan Ford finished with a game-high 24 points while Ben Page added 10 points as the only other Tornado in double figures. CTX shot 45.3 percent (29-of-64) from the field, hitting 8-of-22 three-pointers (36.4%), and shot 71.4 percent (10-of-14) from the foul line. The Tornados held a slight rebounding advantage over UTD, 34-33.
