Comets Stumble On The Road At Louisiana College, Fall To Wildcats 69-56

PINEVILLE, LA (01.23.16) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team was handed its second straight loss Saturday afternoon, falling at Louisiana College, 69-56, in American Southwest Conference East Division play.

The Comets (now 11-5, 5-4 ASC) rode a four-game winning streak to the top of the ASC East standings after Mondahy's road win over Concordia Texas, but back-to-back road losses at division foes East Texas Baptist and LC have now dropped UTD back to a tie for second place with six league games left to play. The Comets will look to snap their two-game skid Thursday night as they visit new ASC member Belhaven. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.

UTD shot just 37.5 percent (18-of-48), its second lowest of the season, while hitting a season-low four three-pointers in the loss. The Comets were just 4-of-24 (16.7%) from long distance and shot 66.7 percent (16-of-24) from the free-throw line.

Kyle Coulter led the Comets with 15 points, going 4-for-10 from three-point range. The remaining Comets wetn 0-for-14 from beyond the arc. Coulter added a team-best seven rebounds. Jon Hatcher finished with 10 points as the only other UTD player in double figures.

The Comets got off to a slow slart, hitting just 1-of-11 three-pointers in the opening half, as UTD trailed the host Wildcats, 34-22, at the break.  UTD would use a 6-0 run midway through the second half to climb within six points, 50-44, after a Hatcher old-fashioned three-point play with 10:18 left, but would draw any closer.

For LC (now 7-8, 4-3 ASC), John Parker and Anthony Gaines each finished with 14 points while Steve Evans had 14 points. The Wildcats shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field, hitting just 3-of-13 three-pointers (23.1%), and shot 80 percent (12-of-15) from the line.
