ABILENE, TX (10.01.16) - Just one day after one of the worst losses in program history, the UT Dallas women's soccer team recorded its biggest win of the season as the Comets rolled to a 7-0 road victory over McMurry Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference play.
Senior
Megan Mugavero collected her first career "hat trick" as she finished with three of the Comets' seven goals in the lop-sided victory and now has a team-high eight goals on the season. UTD (now 6-4, 3-2 ASC) also got goals from
Stephanie White,
Kat Civitillo,
Melissa Fulfer and
Bailee Davis and five different Comets picked up assists.
The Comets opened the scoring in the 8th minute when White beat the McM keeper one-on-one from ten yards out after an entry pass from
Millie Atkins. Mugavero then scored her first goal of the day in the 17th minute, going far post for an unassisted tally. Civitillo then picked up the Comets' final goal of the opening half in the 31st minute, scoring from point-blank range after a rebounded shot.
In the second half, Mugavero gave UTD a 4-0 lead in the 56th minute thanks to an assist from
Rachel Mullen. Mugavero completed her "hat trick" in the 62nd minute after an assist from
Jadyn Wilson. The Comets then added late goals from Fulfer (80') and Davis (85') to complete the scoring.
UTD ended the afternoon with 35 shots, 19 on goal, while holding the War Hawks to just three shots, none of which were on frame. The Comets set new seasons highs for both shots and shots on goal.
Mugavero took seven shots, five on frame, while Atkins finished with four shots.
The Comets return to action Thursday night when they host Sul Ross State. Game time is 7 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.
