Comets Hold Off Sul Ross State, 5-3, in Key ASC Match

RICHARDSON, TX (10.06.16) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team has now scored 12 goals over its last two games as the Comets downed Sul Ross State, 5-3, at home Thursday night in American Southwest Conference play.

Five different Comets scored in the victory as UTD moved into a tie for second place in the conference standings at the midway point of the league schedule. UTD returns to action Saturday when the Comets host No. 3-ranked Trinity in non-conference play. Game time is 3 p.m. at the UTD Soccer Field.

Melissa Fulfer (4) opened the scoring in the 6th minute when she accepted a pass from teammate Megan Mugavero and touched the ball over the SRSU keeper's head, giving UTD a 1-0 lead. The Comets then added two goals off of corner kicks within a two minute span later in the half. Rachel Mullen (1) doubled the lead in the 30th minute while Alex Brown (1) used a header in the 32nd minute to lift the Comets to a 3-0 advantage.

Leading 3-1 at the break, UTD regained a three-goal lead in the 47th minute when Stephanie White (3) scored an unassisted tally, dribbling through the Lady Lobo box. However, SRSU climbed back within a goal with two second-half scores before Jacquie Kaufman (1) delivered the nail in the 74th minute, receiving a deep cross form the left from White.

SRSU got three goals from Lauren Ebbs, the leading goal scorer in the ASC. Ebbs used a penalty kick with 40 seconds in the first half of her first goal and added two goals late for the Lady Lobos.

The Comets (now 7-4, 4-2 ASC) finished the night with 26 shots, 11 on goal, while SRSU took 19 shots, eight of which were on frame. Fulfer led UTD with five shots and White and Bailee Davis each took four shots. Ebbs led SRSU with 12 shots, four on goal.

UTD keeper Monica Dallacasa finished with five saves in a complete game while Lady Lobo k eeper Ashlie Rojas made six saves, also playing the full 90 minutes.
