Comets Take Over ASC Lead With 5-0 Shutout of LETU

LONGVIEW, TX (10.14.16) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team moved to the front of the class in the American Southwest Conference chase Friday evening after blanking LeTourneau, 5-0.

Freshman Alfredo Kaegi scored twice for his team-high 10th and 11th goals of the season, while junior Danny Meyer had the game-winner and an assist. Two other Comets found their way into the net as UTD (8-3-1, 5-0-2 ASC) kept up the assault throughout the match. LETU fell to 5-6-2, and 2-3 in ASC play.

The victory gave UTD 16 points in the league's scoring system (3 points for a win and 1 for a tie), moving the Comets past Hardin-Simmons (4-1-2) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-1-1), which sit points behind after an off day on Friday. HSU plays crosstown rival McMurry Saturday while UMHB is idle until next week.

The defending ASC champion Comets wasted little time getting on the board. Kaegi fed teammate Danny Meyer at the top of the box for the first goal of the match just 11:38 in. Kaegi then scored just four minutes later with a header off a Kasden Williams crossing pass.

Kaegi then got on the board again with another header 12 minutes into the second half, scoring in close off a Meyer cross. Daaron McFarling then added a rebound goal off a scurry in front of the net at the 73:36 mark. Andrew Jenson wrapped up the scoring when he punched in a rebound off the LETU keeper with just over nine minutes left in the match.

UTD dominated possession and outshot the YellowJackets, 36-9; and had 11 shots on goal. Kaegi took eight shots, putting four on net. Goalkeeper Joseph Weber had three saves for the Comets, but did not have to make a save in the second half.

The Comets have a short time to rest up as they travel just up the road to Marshall to meet East Texas Baptist (8-5. 3-2-0 ASC).
