LONGVIEW, TX (10.14.16) - Down by a goal at the half, the UT Dallas women's soccer team scored a pair of second half tallies to take a 2-1 American Southwest Conference win away from LeTourneau.
Senior
Sofia Quezada punched in the winning goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, breaking a 1-1 tie. The victory kept UTD (8-5, 5-2 ASC) in the chase for a top four post-season seed. LeTourneau fell to 5-6-1 and 1-4-1 in ASC play.
UTD went on the offensive early, out-shooting the Yellow Jackets 7-4 in the first half, but LETU keeper Carrye Funk stopped UTD's only two shots on goal. Meanwhile, Stephanie Vana put the Jackets ahead 1-0 just 14:03 into the match and the Comets were unable to capitalize before the break.
After halftime, though, the Comets came out firing, finishing with a 22-12 edge in shots. Still, there was less than 20 minutes remaining when freshman
Jadyn Wilson took a feed from
Millie Atkins and evened the score. Then, with just 9:02 remaining, Quezada got the game winner.
UTD faces a quick turnaround with another 5:00 pm meeting Saturday at East Texas Baptist.Â
