JACKSON, MS (10.27.16) - The UT Dallas women's soccer team returned to action Thursday night and recorded a 3-0 road win over Belhaven. In addition, the Comets locked up the fourth seed in next week's American Southwest Conference Tournament, thanks to help from around the league, and will host an opening round game Tuesday night.
The Comets (10-6-1) secured their seventh straight 10-win season with the victory over Belhaven, finishing with 20-2 shot advantage over the host Blazers. UTD will wrap up the regular season Friday night when the Comets visit Louisiana College. Game time is 6 p.m. in Pineville, La.
Melissa Fulfer opened the scoring in the 12th minute as she tallied on a penalty kick to lift the Comets to an early 1-0 lead. UTD added a second goal in the 32nd minute when
Sofia Quezada knocked in goal after a corner kick by Fulfer which was re-directed via header by teammate
Megan Mugavero. The Comets closed the scoring in the 77th minute when
Millie Atkins added an unassisted tally from 20 yards out.
UTD had 10 shots on goal, compared to just by the Blazers, and took nine corner kicks.
Bailee Davis led the Comets with four shots while Fulfer and
Stephanie White each took three shots. UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa made two saves in her fourth shutout of the season.
After Friday's regular-season finale against LC, the Comets will host fifth-seeded Concordia Texas at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the ASC quarterfinals. With a win over CTX, the Comets would advance to the ASC Final Four, at a league's top seed.
