The 4th-seeded Comets (now 12-6-1) will now face tournament top seed and No. 11-ranked Hardin-Simmons in the ASC semifinals in Abilene at 11 a.m. Friday. HSU knocked off LeTourneau, 3-0, in its quarterfinal match Tuesday. The other two higher seeds also advanced as #2 Mary Hardin-Baylor defeated Sul Ross State, 3-1; and #3 seed UT Tyler topped East Texas Baptist, 4-1. The ASC title game is set for 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, in Abilene.
UTD took a quick 1-0 lead in just the second minute of the match when
Jacquie Kaufman chipped Tornado keeper Kila Hartom from just outside the six-yard box, after a flick out by Fulfer. The Comets would hold their 1-0 lead until the break before CTX got the equalizer in the 53rd minute when Peyton Heilig scored after a free kick by teammate Skylar Larkin.
The Comets ended the night with 12 shots, compared to 15 by CTX, with Kaufman leading the charge with three shots. Fulfer and White each took two shots. UTD keeper
Monica Dallacasa played the full 90 minutes for the Comets in goal, making five saves.
For CTX (now 8-7-1), Madi Timmons took a game-high five shots while Heilig and Kaycee Moore each had three shots. Hartom made five saves as well in a full 90-minute performance.
