Box Score ABILENE, TX (11.04.16) - The youthful University of Texas at Dallas women's soccer team gave American Southwest Conference juggernaut Hardin-Simmons one of its toughest challenges of the season Friday afternoon before finally succumbing, 2-0, in the semifinals of the ASC Championship Tournament.
TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
The 11th-ranked Cowgirls (now 18-1) advance to their 17th consecutive ASC championship match with a chance to win an unprecedented 14th straight league title on Saturday. The 4th-seeded Comets, who have not recorded a victory over HSU since 2002, saw their season end at 12-7-1.
Despite a valiant effort from UTD, the Cowgirls got all the scoring they would need with a pair of header goals off a pair of corner kicks late in the first half. Kirsten Parrish found the net twice off corner serves in the 10-minute span to account for the Cowgirl goals. After the Comets had battled through 32 scoreless minutes to start the game, Parrish scored first at the 32:12 mark, and again at 42:24.
UTD did not give up the fight, however, battling through the rest of the game without surrendering another goal. HSU was held to 2 or fewer goals just twice this season during ASC play and handed UTD a dominating 7-0 defeat back on September 30th.
On Friday, the Cowgirls again took charge of the offensive numbers - outshooting the Comets 31-9 - but UTD goalkeeper
Monica Dallacasa and the Comet defense withstood the attack. Dallacasa made eight saves in the game despite the onslaught, and HSU did not score again. The Comets, meanwhile, stepped up their efforts after halftime, getting six of their nine shots, and putting three on goal. Senior
Sofia Quezada led the charge with three shots. Junior
Millie Atkins had a pair.
