GREENSBORO, N.C. (11.19.16) - The UT Dallas men's basketball team fell to 0-3 to open the new season Saturday afternoon with an 81-72 loss to William Peace to close the Guilford College Tournament.
The Comets will look for its first win of the season next Saturday when UTD visits Concordia Texas for a non-conference meeting. Game time is 2 p.m. in Austin.
UTD held a 35-30 lead at the break before the Pacers (2-1) shot better than 51 percent over the final 20 minutes to complete a 14-point turnaround. The Comets maintained a lead until the 6:58 left in the second half when WPU's Jalen Vince drained a three-pointer to give the Pacers a 58-56 advantage, only their second lead of the afternoon.
The Comets would battle back to knot the game, 65-65, on a lay up by
Jon Hatcher with 3:05 remaining, but WPU finished the game on a 16-7 run to seal UTD's third straight loss. The Comets went 0-for 3 from three-point range over the final 64 seconds of the contest.
UTD finished the game shooting 39.7 percent (25-of-63), hitting just 5-of-23 (21.7%) from three-point range. Hatcher scored a game-high 19 points, leading four Comets in double digits.
Caleb Banks added 18 points while
Reagan Keogh had UTD's first "double-double" of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
