RICHARDSON, TX (11.07.16) - The UT Dallas men's soccer team became the first-ever UTD athletic program to earn three-straight trips to the national tournament with a 2-0 win over Hardin-Simmons Sunday afternoon in the American Southwest Conference title game. The Comets will now open the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Saturday against Chapman University, at a regional held in San Antonio.
The Comets (13-4-2) claimed their second straight and fourth overall ASC championship this season and will be heading to the NCAA D-III Tournament for the fifth time in program history. UTD also advanced to the national tournament in 2004, 2007, 2014 and 2015.
UTD will travel to San Antonio for the opening two rounds of the national tournament for a regional hosted by Trinity University. The Comets will square off with Chapman at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Paul McGinlay Field. Host Trinity will face Whitworth University in the first opening round game at 5 p.m with the Sunday's regional final set for 5 p.m. Daily general admission tickets are $6, $3 for students and $2 for children ages 3-12.
The Comets are 1-4 all-time in the NCAA D-III Tournament, with their lone win coming at home in 2014, a 2-0 victory over Pomona-Pitzer. UTD is facing Chapman for the first time in school history.
