Baseball Team Keeps Rolling With 14-8 Win Over Cal Lutheran

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX (02.13.16) - After Friday's season-opening 17-3 win over Chapman University, the bats stayed hot for the UT Dallas baseball team as the Comets collected 17 hits in a 14-8 win over California Lutheran as part of the Rusty Greer/Jackie Brown Classic at AirHog Stadium.

The Comets (2-0) used a seven-run 2nd frame and senior Brandon George belted the squad's first home run of the season in the 5th to help UTD stake another early lead. Senior right-hander Brandon Lee (1-0) picked up the victory, striking out four while scattering five hits in six innings of work.

UTD got out to a quick 3-0 lead in the 1st after a George RBI single and a two-run double by David McKenzie, but the Regals answered in the top of the 2nd with three runs of their own. The Comets then pounced on CLU starter Marshall Pautsch in the 2nd, scoring seven runs on seven hits to start pulling away. Five different Comets collected an RBI in the 2nd, capped by a two-run single by Josh Covey.

The Comets tacked on another run in the 4th on a Mitch Barati single before taking a 13-3 lead in the 5th after George's two-run shot. CLU scored twice in the top of the 7th before the Comets completed their scoring with a Tim Cole RBI single in the bottom of the frame. The Regals scored three runs in the 9th.

George finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored while McKenzie and Covey were each 3-for-5.

The Comets wrap up the the event Sunday with a 4 p.m. game against Hendrix.
